DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

The Department of English Language and Literature launched its activities by admitting students in a Bachelor's program of English Language and Literature in 1970. Subsequently, another B.A. program in English Language Teaching was launched by the department. The qualitative and quantitative development of the department was on the rise till 1976 when it gained the requirements to admit students in a Master's program of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). In this year, the department was honored to have 28 full-time faculty members as the teaching staff including an associate professor, six assistant professors, and 21 instructors twenty of whom were non-Iranian. Currently, the department offers two B.A. programs in English language and Literature and English Translation, two M.A. programs in English Language and Literature and Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and a PhD program in Teaching English as a Foreign Language throughout the entire academic year under daytime, evening and campus courses. Since the establishment of the University's Language Center in 2015, this department has managed to expand its educational and research-related services to various departments of the university as well as other governmental and non-governmental institutions. Currently, the department has one professor, 2 associate professors and 10 assistant professors.

The Educational Focus of the Department:

In addition to teaching program courses offered in the department and teaching General English in all the departments across the university, the members teach several English courses and hold relevant workshops for applicants in the university or any other institution. In this regard, mention can be made of the faculty members' educational activities at the University's Language Center, the University's Central Library, and the Language Center at AZFA (the center for teaching Persian to speakers of other languages).

The Research Focus of the Department:

The Department of English Language and Literature excels in research and is honored to publish the Journal of Research in Applied Linguistics as the topmost ranking scientific journal of the filed in the entire country. Having the ISI index for several years, the journal publishes research articles in Applied Linguistics, Post-colonial Literature, and Oriental studies.
