    History

    In the 96th meeting of the council for higher education, held in 3/8/1974, accounting was academically recognized as a university major. With the admission of 38 students that took the entrance exam, the accounting department officially embarked on activities in the second semester of 1975 academic year.

    In 2008, with the admission of a PhD student, the academic levels were expanded to undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses. So far, 2588 B.A. students, 131 M.A. students and 13 PhD students have graduated from accounting department.

    Educational orientation of the department

    From the educational point of view, accounting specific courses in financial accounting issues, industrial accounting, management accounting, public sector accounting and audits are the present areas of study of the department.  This way, the department graduates would be able to both learn various aspects of accounting and respond to the growing demands of different economic sectors of the country.

    Research orientation of the department

    During the past decade, the accounting department has been able to complete projects and theses of M.A. and PhD students by the help of both faculty members and higher education students. The research orientation of the accounting department is mostly towards courses on using capital market data and their relationship with decision making and information processing systems. The department is ready to set up research projects linked to different orientations of accounting major.

    There are currently 259 students, 210 B.A., 32 M.A., and 17 PhD, at the accounting department.
