History
The activities pertaining to the field of physical education began with the establishment of the university in 1955, and since then, they have been considered as essential parts of the students' educational activities. In 1974, the related activities of physical education were established in the Education Faculty. In 1975, the physical education department was renamed to the Center of Physical Education and Sports Sciences. In 1977, the first undergraduate applicants in physical education (90 students) were admitted through a theoretical and practical entrance examination, and, since then, a number of students have been formally accepted and graduated from the university each year. The license was granted for the establishment of the faculty of physical education and sports sciences in 1977. In addition to the undergraduate program in 1977, the faculty established the master of science program. Moreover, three educational departments were then established in 1979 (e.g., sports physiology, sports psychology, and sports management). In 2013, a PhD program was established for two groups of sports management and sports physiology.

Introduction to the Lab
The lab of the faculty of Sports Sciences was founded in the late 1980s. This laboratory is located next to the multi-purpose gym of the faculty. Considering the equipment provided during these years, several studies in the field of sports physiology, motor behavior and sports psychology are conducted in this lab. These include research on metabolism during exercise, body composition, studies on the respiratory system and respiratory function, studies on metabolism of fats and carbohydrates during exercise, and studies on learning and motor control. There have also been animal studies on laboratory mice.
Equipment such as advanced HP treadmills, fixed and portable gas analyzers, power plate, EMG electromyography, different types of lab treadmills, composite pneumatic devices for measuring body compositions, and different types of ergometer bikes for estimating physiologic indices during sport activities can be found in this lab. In the field of animal studies, there are important devices such as treadmills for rodents and mouse pools and wheel running, which provide significant assistance to graduate students who are working in this area of research. In addition to dissertations, theses and research projects, due to the appropriate place and useful devices, some of the courses of PhD and M.A. students are also presented in this lab. A large number of human and animal studies of PhD and M.A. students are conducted in this lab.
