Shahid Chamran University of Ahwaz, as a leading university in southwest of Iran, plays an important role in the development of the region and has, therefore, based its policies on increasing its regional and national contributions to science production. In this regard, the university has developed research and advisory centers located at its various colleges to provide conditions for expanding research activities and increasing scientific output. The strategies in the research centers are focused on research activities in line with local and national needs as well as expanding collaborative research with local, national, and international organizations. The focus of research is more on basic and applied topics.

At present, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz has six research centers with definitive authorization. Two other research centers at this university have also gained definitive authorization from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. It is worth mentioning that nine more other research centers in the fields of steel, women's studies, urban studies, money and banking, inoperative defense, laser and plasma, stem cells and transgenic technology, oil wellhead and inside-well pumps, and solar cells are in the process of obtaining their definitive authorizations.
