After years of gradual growth and development, Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz has now a total of 32,933 sq. m. teaching space, 13,725 sq. m. for cultural buildings, 42,182 sq. m. for a sports complex, 59,825 sq. m. for dormitories, and 47,465 sq. m. for accommodating and recreation services.

The Organic Geochemistry Lab of this department is equipped with cutting-edge analytical instruments to carry out advanced research projects. The organic petrographic section of this laboratory is equipped with a Zeiss Axioplan-II microscope that can be used for advanced organic petrographic studies. In addition, several other instruments exist for preliminary and advanced geochemical evaluations including: Rock-Eval 6 instrument, Gas chromatography (GC), Pyrolysis-gas chromatography (PY-GC), S₂ analyzer, Kerogenatron, Soxhelet extraction, Column chromatography, etc. In addition, the surface geochemistry section of this laboratory is equipped with advanced analytical instruments for studying microbial communities in the rock samples through extracting and analyzing the DNA and RNA. Other instruments include the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and the X-Ray diffraction Spectrometer (XRD).
