History:
The department of the Quran and Hadith Sciences is one of the educational departments of the Faculty of Theology and Islamic Studies of the Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz, which was established in October 1994 at the BA level, and then in 2008 and 2017 it launched MA and PhD programs of study respectively. In 2017 the department also managed to attract foreign students (mainly from Iraq) at the MA and PhD level.
Educational Focus:
The educational focus of the department is on the topics of the Quran sciences, such as interpretation of the Quran (comparative and argumentative, thematic and sequential), Dirayat al-hadith, criticism of hadith, the science of the Quran recitations and science of hadith narrators and general topics related to the Quran and hadith sciences based on the approved course description.
Distinctive and Competitive Advantages:
The department has unique potentials in southern Iran and the Khuzestan province in terms of work experience, active and retired experienced and expert professors with the ability to teach and guide dissertations related to the field, at least in two languages of Arabic and Persian, at all three levels of university, enjoying a desirable competitive edge. In addition, proximity to the neighboring Arab countries adds to this advantage.
Research Focus:
The main research focus of the department is on the criticism and review of the viewpoints of commentators, methods, interpretive narratives (in terms of documentation and text), criticism and review of hadith and Islamic narratives in terms of text and documentation, review of the science of recitations topics and its history, review of related topics of science of hadith narrators. In addition, the department has the ability to conduct comparative and interdisciplinary research.
Programs of Study:
At the moment, the department has only one program of study that is the Quran and Hadith Sciences at three levels, which of course offers a satisfactory variety of topics. It is to be noted that according to the integration program, there is only one program of study, bearing the exact same title.
Number of Faculty Members:
The Department of the Quran and Hadith Sciences currently has four active members: one associate professor and three assistant professors.
Number of Students:
There are 152 students studying at the BA level, 56 (including non-Iranian) students at the MA level and 10 (including non-Iranian) students at the PhD level, and so far, there are 828 alumni at the BA level, 128 alumni at the MA and 4 alumnus at PhD level.
