The political sciences department of Shahid Chamran University was established in the faculty of economics and social sciences in 2008. It then officially embarked on B.A. students' admission in September, 2009. Currently, the undergraduate admissions of the department would be twice a year.

- The educational orientation of the department is towards political thoughts in Islam and the West, political sociology, Iran studies, international relations, and international laws.

- The research orientation of the department is towards issues like Iran's foreign policy, ethnic conflicts, national security, new media and politics, public diplomacy, political parties, and regional studies.

- The request of the department to run the M.A. course in political sciences (Iran's issues orientation) is under consideration.

- There are currently 5 assistant professors and 160 students at the political sciences department.
