Background

The department of Education was established in 1972 at the current location of the Square Building in Ahvaz, and was active in two undergraduate and graduate programs within the time period from October 1972 to the beginning of the Islamic Revolution. Considering the undergraduate courses, the department began by Education and Instructional Technology program, and with regard to the graduate level, it offered Education and Educational Management program. Initially, the faculty members consisted of only one associated professor, five assistant professors and three lecturers. After the war, the counseling department separated from the education department and started independent work. The department is also publishing a scientific and research journal since 1972. It covers a broad range of topics of innovative research within the field of education. In addition, since 2012, the department's center of excellence in lifelong learning has been working and has provided extensive support for several educational and research activities of students. 

Department's Teaching focus 

The department of Education at Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz stands at a high national visibility with a great commitment to teaching. The main curricular and research focus in this department is on topics in life-long learning, philosophy for children, knowledge management, higher education, instructional material, new horizons in curriculum, and organizational training, to name just a few. Education department offers Bachelor, Master and PhD programs. Graduates of the education department develop a broad knowledge of theoretical foundations and outstanding analytical skills which allow them to contribute creatively to future issues of research in terms of technology and society.

Broad Range of Degree Programs

The Department currently offers one bachelor's degree program on two specific branches, namely instructional technology and preschool & school education. The curriculum includes 140 course credits. Regarding the bachelor degree, the central focus is on preparing students to work as primary teachers, educational technologists, educational multimedia designers and developers. Fifteen faculty members work actively at the undergraduate program, graduate programs including six disciplines: Philosophy of Education, Philosophy for Children, Educational Management, Educational Research, Curriculum Development, and Training and Human Resources Development, as well as PhD programs including Philosophy of Education and Educational Management.
