The computer group was initially founded as a part of the statistics group. While holding the sector devoted to the computer services of the university, the groups of mathematics, statistics, and computer independently established the first department of mathematics and computer of Iran in 1977. Such an association opened the door to develop numerous areas of study in the department. Within these years, the training groups of this department were considered as the most diligent groups of the university. Mainly, in addition to offering the basic courses required for the other fields and admitting students in Bachelor of Statistics and Applications, Bachelor of Mathematics and Applications, and Bachelor of Computer Science, they also used to admit students in the Master of Mathematics and Statistics. The computer major, entitled software engineering, was isolated from the Science Department and transferred to the Engineering Department in 2001. Over the next years, the computer major, entitled as computer science, was again established in 2008 and, along with the mathematics and statistics majors, was isolated from the Science Department and progressed in a new building, known as the Department of Mathematics and Computer. The first undergraduate students of the computer science major were admitted in 2010, and henceforth, the students are admitted in computer science every year.
